A fellow nature-lover and friend Michael of Exploring Portland’s Nature Areas included me in the photo meme “My 7 Super Shots.” The idea is to select photos the represent the seven categories. I of course instantly thought of different amphibian and reptile species that fit each category. So here they are. Happy Herping!
A photo that takes my breath away:
[SinglePic not found]This was the first (and so far only) eastern diamondback rattlesnake I had seen. She was a lovely snake sitting with the sun dappling across her back. A truly beautiful animal.
A photo that makes me laugh or smile:
[SinglePic not found]This cute little Pacific chorus frog still makes me smile. He almost looks like he’s smiling too.
A photo that makes me dream:
[SinglePic not found]Every time I see this black iguana it reminds me of the fun time I had traveling around the Yucatan with my hubby and the fun times ahead.
A photo that makes me think:
[SinglePic not found]This photo of a northern spring salamander larva with a split tail tip reminds me to always take a closer look at things. You never know what you may find.
A photo that makes my mouth water:
[SinglePic not found]While this photo of a red-eared slider doesn’t really make my mouth water it does made me want to go swimming/canoeing in search of aquatic wonders.
A photo that tells a story:
[SinglePic not found]This photo is of a cajun chorus frog that I had suspected was a different species/subspecies because its call was strange. Turns out it was a separate species that another herpetologist had recently named. Also keep your eyes and ears open.
A photo that I am most proud of (aka my worthy-of-National Geographic shot):
[SinglePic not found]This northern red salamander photo is still one of my favorites. They are such beautiful salamanders with brilliant coloration when they are young.
